SPA (Staff & Parents Association)

Muswell Hill School has a thriving Staff and Parent's Association (SPA) . Each year we organise a variety of social fundraising events for the school which are designed to be lots of fun for the whole family. The fun kicks off in November with the ever popular fireworks night. This is not only open to the school but to the general public as well, so it is not unusual to see pupils accompanied by siblings, parents, grandparents and friends! It is a great evening with food and mulled wine for sale topped off with a spectacular pyrotechnical display - so put a date in your diary for next year!

Our Christmas and Summer Fairs are the major events of the school calendar. They are a great way for the children to unwind after the hard work of the academic term and are therefore a source of great excitement. The highlight of last year's Summer Fair was the 1950's rock and roll band formed by teachers and parents. It was a huge success that hopefully we'll be repeating this year. The provisional date for the Summer Fair this year is July 15^th. Thanks to the World Cup that's later than usual but it should mean we'll have good weather.

We also hold an annual Quiz Night, which is for adults only so staff and parents can relax and get to know each other. This is hosted by Julie and Ian of Accidental Productions who run a great entertainments company and who also happen to be parents at the school. This is a highly entertaining evening and a great way for parents to pitch their knowledge against the teachers.

Our monthly Cake Sales have been successfully re-introduced this year. These are run by the class representatives, with each year group taking it in turns to host a sale every month. The kids love them and huge amounts of cakes and biscuits are bought and devoured in record time. Demand always exceeds supply.

The SPA is also in the process of organising a car boot sale and Infant puppet show in the Summer term. Dates to be confirmed.

All the money raised gets put to good uses around the school. This year the SPA has provided funds for some spectacular new equipment for the Junior playground. There are wooden climbing frames, monkey bars, climbing nets etc. This has made an enormous difference as the children now have a safe, fun and challenging focus to their play times.

All this would not be possible without the tireless work of the SPA and Class Reps. If you would like to be more involved with the school why not consider becoming a Class Rep next year or even sitting on the SPA committee?
