Dear Parents/carers,

Staff Comings and Goings

We are sorry to be saying goodbye to Susan Slim ¨C she has successfully completed her Qualified Teacher certificate and has been appointed at Hampstead Garden Suburb Primary School for September. Thanks to Susan for her hard work and commitment. We are also saying goodbye to Abi Rochford, Anna Maria Tasker, Eileen Martin and Jen Walton. Again, thanks for the care and support they have given their pupils and we wish them all the very best for the future.

For next year we are pleased to inform you that Sabrina Azam will be returning to full-time employment.  We have been able to finally find a permanent specialist Music teacher to teach music in both Key Stages; Chris Guy will start with us in September. We are very excited about this appointment as Chris is a very experienced and talented musician.

Other new appointments for September are Learning Support Assistants: Shona Hughes Nectoux, Natalie Quildon, Peter Renn and Emine Yusuf.

Ghana Visit by Haringey Teachers

As you know Jill Hughes went on a trip to Ghana in March of this year. Photos and exhibits of the trip are in the entrance hall and the tape/slide show of the visit was shown at the Open Afternoon. Jill says ¡°It was an amazing and humbling experience to be welcomed by so many dedicated teachers. The schools we saw did not have many resources at all but the children were so eager to learn and so well-behaved.¡± Some of the Ghana teachers are now able to spend 2 days in London visiting schools and we will welcome them next Tuesday morning in our school. Could any parents who would like to help in that welcome please contact Jill.

Bid for a Football

Helen won the football signed by the Tottenham Hotspur team at the Summer Fair on Saturday. She wants to raise money for the school and pass it on to a real football enthusiast. The football is going to go to the highest bidder (a reserve has been set). Bring your bids into the office by next Friday, 18 July. Children ¨C ask your parents before you put in a high bid!

Wallet Found

A wallet containing money was found at the end of the Summer Fair ¨C see Jill if you have lost one, you can have it if you can accurately describe it.

Strike on Wednesday and Thursday, 16 and 17 July 2008

This is to inform you that members of UNISON are taking strike action on these days, in support of higher pay awards. We are currently doing a risk assessment and hope to be able to open the school. We will let you know on Monday whether or not we will be open.

There will be a skeleton office staff in the morning and none in the afternoon. There will also be fewer lunchtime supervisors and fewer Learning Support Assistants in class.

We recognise the excellent work that our Learning Support staff do for the care and education of the children in school and we understand their need for higher pay. In the long term we would find it difficult to deliver such a high level of care and education without these key staff but are hopeful that the relatively low number of staff taking action on those days will enable us to stay open.

The Year 6 production will go ahead. However, the Key Stage 1 Sports Day on Wednesday has to be cancelled. It will be rescheduled for early September.
