Dear Parents/carers,
Hot Weather
A reminder for parents about appropriate clothing – children should have shoulders covered, a simple T-shirt is fine but not thin strappy tops leaving shoulders bare. Sandals are fine for footware but not flip-flops as children can find running difficult and can injure toes. They do need trainers or plimsolls in school for games/sports as open sandals are not ideal for outdoor games lessons. Children may bring in suntan lotion and bottles of water (labelled with their name and class) and we encourage them to wear hats. Infant children need to have lotion put on at home before they come to school.
Joe Friedman
Joe Friedman, the popular author of the Boobela books, spent some time with children from Years 1,2 and 3 this week. They enjoyed asking him questions about his work and he read a few of his stories to them. He said the children had been delightful and very enthusiastic. We have 2 books in the office with ‘unidentified cheques’. Please come and collect them if your child has not received their book from Joe.
Dinner Money
We would like to remind all parents/carers that dinner money should be paid in advance (for one week, a month, half a term), ideally on Mondays. Please drop your payment into the office in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and class. Always write your child’s name and class on the back of any cheques you hand in – we sometimes cannot match names on cheques to any child in school.
Primary Strategy for Change
Haringey Council are keen to gather the views of pupils, parents/carers, governors, community members, school staff and headteachers who may not have been involved in the first round of consultation on the Primary Strategy for Change.
The purpose of the Primary Strategy is to record Haringey’s Children and Young People’s Services plans and aspirations to raise standards further and ensure meaningful inclusion for all pupils. In order for Haringey to bid for new money for the budget there needs to be a consultation of all stake holders. It is essential that Haringey receives this money and your opinions are important.
Therefore, members of Haringey Council will be in the playground tomorrow morning consulting with parents/carers on their views for the future, the priorities for children and young people and giving background information on the Primary Strategy.
Addition to your Diary Dates
Finally, a date for your diary that was not on the list of Summer Term dates: Monday, 7 July 2008, we have our open afternoon from 2.00 to 4.00 pm where you can come and look at your child’s work. Any parent who feels they need a formal consultation with their classteacher will be able to book an appointment from 4.00 to 6.30 pm.
School lunchtime survey
As it is now about three years since our last school meals survey, the school meals group has decided its time to ask for your views again. This one is much shorter, so please take a few minutes to fill it in. We would like to hear from as many of you as possible, including those of you whose children have packed lunches. In particular, we would like to know how we may be able to convince you to try the improved school lunch menu as the more children who have school lunches the better the service becomes. It also means we are entitled to more staff, which improves the quality of the food and takes pressure off our head cook Taiwo and the other staff who are now preparing everything from scratch, even down to the pizza bases. Please put your completed survey in the box outside the office marked School Meals Survey by Friday, 16.5.2008.
Please note that all responses are confidential. If you would like to speak to anyone on the school meals group or become more involved you can phone Sarah Gray on 8444 9814, Suzy Rosenthal on 8883 1420 or Cecilia Capezza on 8374 2717.
