4 Apr 2008 - Letter from the Chair of Governors

GOVERNING

BODY

4.4.2008

Dear Parents/Carers,

As pointed out in the newsletter earlier this week the National Union of Teachers

(NUT) members were balloted for national strike action over the Government’s

proposals to impose further below-inflation pay increases on teachers. NUT members

voted by a majority of three to one to support the action.

As a result of this action the school will be closed on Thursday, 24.4.2008, as the vast

majority of teachers, including senior management, are NUT members. We have

looked at the possibility of keeping the school open but it is simply not safe or feasible

with so many teachers not present.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused but feel sure parents will understand that

this action is not taken lightly and is as a result of a lengthy campaign during which the

NUT has repeatedly drawn attention to the frustration of teachers about the effects of

below-inflation pay increases on their living standards and those of their families;

recruitment, retention and morale; and on the long-term future of the education

service.

Yours sincerely,

James Libson
